Experience with making friends and new connections left me with a thought that complete strangers or rather direct contacts have a better chance of being good long term friends than acquainted ones; as the acquainted ones would always take you as a friend of a friend.
Not much I wish to elaborate on this, or its not that I've been meeting a lot of strangers lately, but just think about the set of close friends you have, and try remembering who introduced you to them, and you'll be surprised to learn like I did today, that, the best of friends I have are those whom I was never introduced to, or the one who introduced us died the next day :p
